“This system will have an indirect impact on extreme weather and water conditions in Indonesia in the next 24 hours,” said BMKG in a tweet on X, Sunday (14/12).
BMKG said Tropical Cyclone Bakung grew from Tropical Cyclone Seed 91S since December 12 at 19.00 WIB.Currently its position is around 9.9 degrees South Latitude 92.4 degrees East Longitude around the Indian Ocean southwest of Lampung.BMKG revealed that the maximum wind speed around the system reached 60 knots (110 km/h) and the minimum air pressure was 984 hPa.
BMKG predicts that the maximum wind speed of Tropical Cyclone Bakung will decrease in intensity in the next 24 hours, but will still be in category 2 with movement in the southwest direction away from Indonesian territory.
Meanwhile, Tropical Cyclone Seed 93S began to form on December 11 2025. Currently its position is at 13.0 degrees South Latitude 112.5 East Longitude around the Indian Ocean south of East Java with a maximum wind speed of around 15 knots (28 km/hour) with a minimum pressure of around 1007 hPa.
“Potential Tropical Cyclone Seed 93S has a low chance of becoming a tropical cyclone in the next 24 hours,” said BMKG.
Furthermore, Tropical Cyclone Seed 92S began to form on December 10.BMKG said that currently the system is at 4.4 degrees South Latitude 91.7 degrees East Longitude around the Indian Ocean west of Bengkulu with a maximum wind speed of 15 knots (28 km/hour) with a minimum pressure of around 1008 hPa.
BMKG predicts Tropical Cyclone Seed 92S has a low chance of becoming a tropical cyclone in the next 24 hours.
According to the BMKG, Tropical Cyclone Bakung and Tropical Cyclone Seed 92S had an indirect impact on Indonesia’s weather in the form of rain with moderate to heavy intensity in Bengkulu, Lampung and West Sumatra.
BMKG also warns that these two systems can cause sea waves as high as 1.25 meters to 2.5 meters in the following areas:
– West Indian Ocean Nias Islands
– Indian Ocean west of Bengkulu to Lampung
– West waters of Bengkulu to Lampung
– Southern part of the Sunda Strait
– Indian Ocean south of Banten
– Southern waters of Banten
Apart from that, Tropical Cyclone Bakung and Tropical Cyclone Seed 92S also have the potential to cause high sea waves of 2.5 meters to 4 meters in the West Indian Ocean, Mentawai Islands.
Then, Tropical Cyclone Seed 93S also had an indirect impact in the form of moderate to heavy intensity rain and strong winds in East Java, Bali and West Nusa Tenggara.
BMKG also warned that Tropical Cyclone Seed 93S has the potential to cause the impact of high sea waves in the following areas:
– Indian Ocean south of West Java to Sumba Island
– Southern waters of West Java to Sumba Island
– Southern Bali-Lombok-Alas Strait
