“However, 97S seeds have the potential to have an indirect impact on extreme weather conditions and waves in Indonesian waters,” said BMKG Deputy for Meteorology Guswanto in a statement, Saturday (15/11).
Based on monitoring results from the Tropical Cyclone Warning Center (TCWC) Jakarta, said Guswanto, the center of the 97S cyclone spawn system is positioned around 11.8°S and 120.8°E, with a maximum wind speed reaching 25 knots (~ 46 km/hour) and minimum air pressure at the system center reaching 1009 hPa.
The impact of this tropical cyclone seed is heavy to very heavy rain which has the potential to occur in the NTT region.Meanwhile, the potential for rain with moderate to heavy intensity has the potential to occur in Central Java, DI Yogyakarta, East Java, Bali and NTB.
Then, the potential for strong winds in general can occur in the NTT and NTB areas. In the waters, this condition has an impact on waves as high as 1.25-2.5 meters which have the potential to occur in the South Indian Ocean from Java to NTT, the waters south of Java to NTT, the southern part of the Bali Strait to the western part of the Sumba Strait, and the Savu Sea until Sunday, November 16 2025.
Meanwhile, the seeds of tropical cyclone 98S have also been monitored since November 15 2025 at 01.00 WIB in the Indian Ocean southwest of Bengkulu.
Based on the latest monitoring, the center of the 98S system is located around 8.2°S and 101.4°E, has a maximum wind speed of around 20 knots (37 km/h) and a minimum pressure of 1007 hPa around its center.
Like 97S, tropical cyclone seed 98S also has the potential to have an indirect impact on extreme weather and water conditions in Indonesia in the form of moderate-heavy rain in the Bengkulu, Lampung, Banten and West Java regions;as well as strong winds in the Bengkulu, Lampung, Banten and southern West Java regions.
Apart from that, this tropical cyclone spawn also has the potential to cause waves as high as 1.25-2.5 meters in the Indian Ocean west of Aceh to Bengkulu, waters west of Aceh to Lampung, the southern Sunda Strait, and the Indian Ocean south of West Java;and waves as high as 2.5-4.0 meters in the Indian Ocean west of Lampung and the Indian Ocean south of West Java.
BMKG Director of Public Meteorology Andri Ramdhani said that even though the two tropical cyclone seeds are currently still in the low probability category of experiencing increased intensification, the public needs to be alert, especially fishermen, sea transportation operators, and parties involved in disaster management.
Andri appealed to remain alert to the potential for increased wave height in southern Indonesian waters which could be influenced by the presence of this system.
“BMKG through TCWC Jakarta continues to carry out intensive monitoring of the development of the two cyclone seeds. This monitoring is carried out continuously to ensure that any significant changes can be immediately informed to the public and related agencies to support faster and more precise mitigation actions,” said Andri.
