Minister of Communications and Digital (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid said that the recovery of the telecommunications network in Aceh had only reached 50 percent, but the base transceiver station (BTS) tower infrastructure had recovered 87 percent.
“Komdigi is trying its best to play a role in continuing to restore the recovery of telecommunications infrastructure in the 3 provinces. The latest update is that for West Sumatra it is already 99 point some percent. In North Sumatra the figure is already at 97-98 percent,” said Meutya at the National Meeting of Digital Literacy Activists in Jakarta, Wednesday (17/12).

However, it is said that the recovery of the telecommunications network in Aceh is only half complete, even though the physical infrastructure has recovered.
“For Aceh, we do have PR. For Aceh, as of today, approximately 50 percent is on air,” said Meutya.
“Recovery means that the tower is functioning at 87 percent,” he added.
Meutya explained that several areas that were still very affected in terms of telecommunications were Bener Meriah, Aceh Tamiang, North Aceh. The reason is that the electricity supply to these areas is still unstable.
Previously, Meutya said the main factor that was key to network recovery was electricity supply.
He said that if electricity was available, 75 percent of the network in Aceh could be restored.Meanwhile, the remaining 25 percent is the restoration of sites that have transmission problems.
The issue of electricity supply for telecommunications recovery was also touched upon by APJATEL General Chairman Jerry Mangasas Swandy
“Yes, (restoring the telecommunications network) we are waiting for directions from Pak Bahlil, because Pak Bahlil is the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, whose main duties are there, because fiber optics is ready,” said Jerry in Jakarta, Thursday (11/12).
According to Jerry, the telecommunications infrastructure in Aceh is ready to operate, but electricity supply is still very limited.
“The BTS to BTS connection depends on power, right now we are playing catch up, when the PLN is up, the BTS is up, automatically by pipe, by fiber optic it can be connected, so that all distribution, transmission, data and voice services can be served well,” he said.
