Minister of Communications and Digital (
Minister of Communications and Technology
) Meutya Hafid said that the telecommunications network in North Sumatra and West Sumatra had still recovered 98 and 99 percent respectively. While recovering in
Aceh
only reached 40 percent, one of which is due to electricity supply problems.
“Maybe our focus now is on Aceh. For North Sumatra, we are at 98 percent. Then West Sumatra, even better, is already at 99 percent,” said Meutya on the sidelines of the Christmas Celebration of the Indonesian Telecommunications Network Operators Association (APJATEL), Jakarta, Thursday (11/12).

“The tower base (in Aceh) is more or less (recovered) by 40 percent. So this is our homework to increase it immediately. Because connectivity is very important,” he added.
Meutya said there were several factors that prevented recovery from being optimal, including the availability of electricity and transmission problems.
Even though conditions have not yet recovered, Meutya said that in terms of tower infrastructure, nothing collapsed. This means that in infrastructure there is no paralysis
“We reported zero or almost zero damage to the tower. Just transmission, there are cable problems and then the main thing we are waiting for is electricity. So if electricity returns, once again this will really help in terms of connectivity, especially in the Aceh region,” said Meutya.
Meanwhile, APJATEL General Chair Jerry Mangasas Swandy said that several fiber optic networks were damaged due to landslides, but handling had been carried out by using backup networks.
“Fiber optics had some landslides, but we can handle it. Because we have redundant ones, not just primary. So all the backbones are in good condition,” he said.
Furthermore, Meutya said that the main factor that is key to network recovery is electricity supply.
He said that if electricity was available, 75 percent of the network in Aceh could be restored.Meanwhile, the remaining 25 percent is the restoration of sites that have transmission problems.
Wait for power supply
According to Jerry, the restoration of the telecommunications network in Aceh which was affected by floods and landslides is just waiting for the electricity supply which is under the domain of the Minister of Energy, Resources and Minerals (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia.
“Yes, (restoring the telecommunications network) we are waiting for directions from Pak Bahlil, because Pak Bahlil is the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, whose main duties are there, because fiber optics is ready for us,” said Jerry.
According to Jerry, the telecommunications infrastructure in Aceh is ready to operate, but electricity supply is still very limited.
“The BTS to BTS connection depends on power, right now we are playing catch up, when the PLN is up, the BTS is up, automatically by pipe, by fiber optic it can be connected, so that all distribution, transmission, data and voice services can be served well,” he said.
Telecommunication network recovery in North Sumatra has reached 98 percent, while in West Sumatra it has reached 99 percent.Network recovery in Aceh is still quite low, at 40 percent.
Apart from electricity supply problems, Meutya also touched on transmission problems at the affected sites. However, the main problem remains the electricity supply.
If electricity is available, he said, the recovery of the telecommunications network in Aceh could reach 75 percent, with the remaining 25 percent recovery from the transmission side.
“If electricity is available, God willing, (recovery) will rise to 75 percent. This is what operator friends have said. So then only 25 percent will be left to correct or restore transmission disruption problems,” said Meutya.
