reportedly preparing a new design for
iPhone 20
, which will be released to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the premium cellphone’s existence in 2027.This design will hide the selfie camera under the cellphone screen.
The latest leak from the Digital Chat Station account on Weibo reveals that the company is finalizing the selfie camera technology under the screen.This feature is planned to be introduced in 2027, or one year after the under-screen Face ID feature was introduced on the iPhone 18 Pro.

Reporting from MacRumors, Android manufacturers have already adopted an under-screen selfie camera, but the photos are still not sharp, because the sensor is behind the panel layer.Learning from that, Apple seems to be delaying the technology to ensure the quality can be even better.
However, reports say that Apple has been developing a solution to this problem for a long time, and is likely to introduce this technology first on the foldable iPhone which is predicted to launch next year.
According to a report from April 2024, LG Innotek, one of Apple’s main suppliers from South Korea, has created an under-display camera module that actually leaves no holes or shadows when inactive.
This technology utilizes a freeform-optic lens system, to reduce image distortion while increasing brightness by optimizing light loss due to the position of the camera behind the screen.
According to a JP Morgan report, Apple’s first foldable device will have a 24-megapixel camera under the display, which is the highest resolution in the industry for the category.However, it is not clear whether this technology made by LG Innotek will be applied directly to the folding iPhone.
By comparison, the resolution of other phones’ under-display cameras is typically only 4 to 8 megapixels, suggesting that Apple may have found a way to substantially improve light transmission and photo quality.
Additionally, Apple is also reportedly working on a major iPhone redesign for its 20th anniversary edition, featuring a bezel-less display with curved edges on all four sides.
There is also speculation that Apple will skip the “iPhone 19” moniker, following previous tradition when the company launched the iPhone
