Head of PVMBG Hadi Wijaya said there are many similar volcanoes in Indonesia, which have been sleeping for hundreds of years and have the potential to erupt.
“In Indonesia there are many dormant volcanoes (sleeping for hundreds of years), but they are still dangerous or still have the potential to erupt,” he said

, Tuesday (25/11).
“Several examples of dormant volcanoes that have the potential to erupt are especially volcanoes that are classified as Type A volcanoes, then on a priority scale it is also necessary to anticipate Type B and Type C volcanoes,” he added.
Hadi mentioned several names such as Mount Salak (West Java), Mount Sindoro (Central Java), and Mount Sumbing (Central Java) which are included in Type A.
Then in this type there are also two mountains in NTT, namely Mount Lereboleng which last erupted in 1881 and Mount Inerie which last erupted in 1882.
In Type B, there are names such as Mount Merbabu (Central Java), Mount Pusuk Bukit (North Sumatra), Mount Sibayak (North Sumatra), and Mount Pulosari (Banten).
Meanwhile, several Type C sleeping mountains are Mount Hulubelu (Lampung), Mount Waesano (NTT), and Mount Pocok Leok (NTT).
Furthermore, Hadi explained that Type A volcanoes are volcanoes that have experienced eruptions since 1600 AD. Meanwhile, Type B volcanoes are those that have not experienced magmatic eruptions after 1600 AD, but still show symptoms of solfatara-like activity.
Meanwhile, Type C volcanoes are those whose eruptions are unknown in human history, but there are still signs of past activity in the form of solfatara fields and/or fumaroles at a weak level.
