Quoted from the Police Ditsiber Instagram account, the perpetrator tried to create a serious and tense atmosphere to put psychological pressure on the recipient of the call.
This is done so that the perpetrator can manipulate the victim with the aim of requesting the transfer of a certain amount of money. The money was requested on the grounds that the case could be resolved quickly.
This mode is not actually new, but using the video call feature to convince the situation is something new.Previously, similar psychological pressure methods had often resulted in victims, starting from saying that the child receiving the call had been caught on drugs to being involved in an accident.
The National Police’s Cyber Cyber Agency appealed to the public to be alert to cases of fraud like this.
Furthermore, fraud via telephone calls which has also become widespread some time ago is the paylater fraud mode. The perpetrator claimed to be from a well-known marketplace or financial service.
The perpetrator said there were many cellphone devices connected to the victim’s marketplace account or financial services. The victim feels that the devices do not belong to him, and the perpetrator will direct them and appear to be trying to help the victim solve the problem.
The perpetrator then asked the victim to log in to the marketplace application or digital financial service in question and directed him to the loan or paylater menu.
The perpetrator tries to manipulate the victim by changing the language, clicking on certain menus, and then ending up with the victim applying for a loan without realizing it.
When the loan money entered the victim’s account, the perpetrator said the money did not belong to the victim and had to be returned immediately. The perpetrator tries to create a panic situation so that the victim loses his guard.
From here, the perpetrator will try to steal the victim’s account and the paylater funds that are already in that account.
In both situations, the key to safety is not to panic and stay calm.Panic will only be exploited by cyber criminals.
If you get this kind of call, it’s better to ignore the call straight away.
