increasing throughout November 2025. BMKG Bandung Geophysics Station recorded 108 earthquakes and more than one million lightning strikes occurring in the West Java region and its surroundings in the last month.
In terms of seismic activity, BMKG recorded 97 shallow depth earthquakes (less than 60 km), 11 medium depth earthquakes (60-300 km), and no earthquakes with a depth of more than 300 km.The depth varies from 1 to 197 kilometers.The largest magnitude during this period was M3.8, while the smallest was M1.0.

“In detail, 42 earthquakes were centered at sea and 66 other earthquakes occurred on land. Of all the incidents, eight of them were felt by the public,” said Head of BMKG Bandung Teguh Rahayu, Monday (1/12).
One of them was the earthquake on November 20 2025 at 00.31 WIB, measuring M3.4, located 20 kilometers southeast of Bandung Regency with a depth of 3 kilometers.Residents felt the shock in Pangalengan (III-IV MMI), Banjaran, Ibun, Kertasari, Pasirjambu, Baleendah, and Margaasih (II-III MMI).
Apart from earthquakes, BMKG also recorded 1,020,379 or more than one million lightning incidents in the same period.The highest lightning strike activity occurred in the first week of November, with 435,384 incidents.CG(-) type of lightning dominated with 267,285 strikes, while CG(+) reached 168,099 strikes.
“Sumedang, Cianjur and Garut regencies were recorded as areas with the highest lightning activity throughout November,” he said.
He appealed to the public to remain alert to weather dynamics and the potential for earthquakes in West Java, but not to be provoked by irresponsible issues.
“Residents are also reminded to stay away from cracked buildings and anticipate extreme weather that might trigger a disaster,” he said.
