BMKG
) says
earthquake
with a magnitude of 6.3 centered in Simeulue, Aceh due to subduction activity of the Indo-Australian Plate.
“By paying attention to the location of the epicenter and the depth of the hypocenter, the earthquake that occurred was a shallow type of earthquake due to the subduction activity of the Indo-Australian Plate subducting beneath the Eurasian Plate,” said BMKG Earthquake and Tsunami Director Daryono in his statement, Thursday (27/11).

“The results of the source mechanism analysis show that the earthquake has a thrust fault mechanism,” he added.
This tectonic earthquake rocked Simeuleu and its surroundings on Thursday (27/11), precisely at 11.56.24 WIB.
Daryono said the epicenter of this earthquake was located at coordinates 2.61° N;95.83° East Longitude, or precisely located in the sea at a distance of kilometers south of Simeulue, Aceh at a depth of 14 kilometers.
This earthquake was felt in Simeulue with an intensity scale of IV MMI.Apart from that, this earthquake was also felt in South Aceh with an intensity scale of III-IV MMI;Banda Aceh, Aceh Besar, Southeast Aceh, Abdya, Singkil with intensity scale III MMI.
Then, the earthquake was also felt in Kabanjahe, Berastagi, Tiganderket, Pidie, Lhokseumawe with an intensity scale of II-III MMI;as well as in Medan and Silangit with II MMI intensity scale.
“The modeling results show that this earthquake does not have the potential for a tsunami,” said Daryono.
As of 13.00 WIB, he said, BMKG monitoring results showed a total of 6 aftershocks of earthquake activity with the largest magnitude being M4.8.
