“We invite the public to remain alert but there is no need to panic. Make sure the water channels are functioning well, keep the environment clean, and monitor weather updates via InfoBMKG before carrying out activities,” said Faisal in his statement, Thursday (4/12).
BMKG Deputy for Meteorology Guswanto said that global to local atmospheric dynamics still contribute to the dominance of rain in many regions of Indonesia.
The activity of Equatorial Rossby Waves, Kelvin Waves and Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO), he said, strengthens the potential for the formation of rain clouds in a number of regions, such as parts of Sumatra, Java, Bali, Nusa Tenggara, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku and Papua.
Apart from that, the presence of Tropical Cyclone Seed 93W in the east of the Philippines is also said to have had an indirect impact in the form of increased rain in North Sulawesi and North Maluku.
BMKG also noted the possibility of strong winds in several areas of North Maluku and North Sulawesi.
BMKG Director of Public Meteorology Andri Ramdhani appealed to the public and local governments to continue taking simple anticipatory steps amidst the potential for extreme weather.
“When it rains, just avoid risky areas such as under trees or fragile buildings, stay alert when driving, and make sure the water flow in the environment is not blocked. Being alert without panicking is very helpful,” he said.
Furthermore, BMKG encourages the public to take proportional anticipatory steps so that their daily activities can run safely and smoothly during this period.
BMKG also reminded the public not to easily trust weather information from unofficial sources.
