Shenzhou-22 to the space station which will be permanently inhabited earlier on Saturday (15/11).
Shenzhou-22 was sent unmanned to the Tiangong space station six months early, this schedule was planned to return China’s manned space program to the right track as broadcast by Chinese state television (CCTV).
The Shenzhou mission has been running smoothly since 2021, However, ten days ago, something happened that slightly disrupted plans.Shenzhou-20 was damaged while docking at Tiangong, so the three crew had to stay together longer (9 days) with a trio of other astronauts.

On Friday, the Shenzhou-20 crew boarded the Shenzhou-21 spacecraft and successfully returned to Earth. This leaves the trio of new astronauts who arrived two weeks ago without a spacecraft to take them home in an emergency.
Shenzhou-22 launched ahead of schedule to address security risks, and allow the Shenzhou-21 crew to return to Earth in April 2026 after completing a six-month mission in space.
“Preparations for the Shenzhou-22 mission have begun. The spacecraft will carry a full payload, including astronaut supplies and equipment for the space station,” reported CCTV, quoted by Channel News Asia (CNA).
Tiangong can accommodate up to six crew members. However, this can only be temporary because the facility is actually designed to accommodate three astronauts for six months.
China has not announced what will happen to Shenzhou-20, which suffered damage from space debris. This causes a crack in the window of his return capsule.
Experts suggest that the spacecraft could be released from the Tiangong Space Station and removed from orbit over the Pacific Ocean.
