Microsoft
form a new team to develop super or artificial intelligence

, who are far more sophisticated than humans in certain fields starting with medical diagnostics.
The project is known as the MAI Superintelligence Team, a rival to similar initiatives undertaken by Meta Platforms, Safe Superintelligence Inc, and others.These ambitious projects began targeting technical advances while confronting skepticism about the capabilities of superintelligence.
Mustafa Suleyman, the head of AI in charge of the project, said that Microsoft plans to invest “a lot of money” in the creation of this super artificial intelligence team.

Reflecting on what Meta did, they recruited leading AI talents and offered US$100 million.
Suleyman did not say whether Microsoft would do something similar to recruit AI talent.However, he stated that while its new team is being formed, Microsoft AI will continue to recruit researchers from other leading laboratories, with Karen Simonyan as the lead scientist.
According to Reuters, Microsoft’s efforts have differences.According to Suleyman, the company is not pursuing AI “capable of doing everything infinitely” as some of its competitors are.
He said he doubts the ability to control self-repairing autonomous machines, despite research into how humans could control AI.
He said Microsoft has a vision for “human superintelligence,” or technology that can solve predefined problems with real-world benefits.
“Humanism requires us to always ask, is this technology useful for human interests?”Suleyman said.
When compared to issues such as machine bias and reliability, artificial intelligence theorists and developers have long debated whether or not these technologies pose a significant threat.
The team will focus on special models that enable superhuman performance without posing “any existential risk at all.”
He pointed to examples of artificial intelligence solving battery storage problems or developing molecules, referring to the DeepMind AlphaFold AI model, which has the ability to predict protein structures.
Suleyman said that for diagnostics, an area that has long been a focus of the artificial intelligence (AI) field and one that Microsoft has prioritized, opens a new tab, the company has “an eye toward medical superintelligence in the next two to three years.”
He explained that this effort is based on AI which is able to solve problems logically and still requires breakthroughs.However, if achieved, AI superintelligence will increase human life expectancy.
“If achieved this will increase our life expectancy and provide more healthy years for everyone, because we will be able to detect preventable diseases much earlier,” he concluded.
