“This decision is related to X transparency and has nothing to do with censorship,” said European Union Technology Commissioner, Henna Virkkunen, Friday (5/12) reported

This also responds to the statement by United States Vice President JD Vance who previously accused the European Union of attacking US companies.
Before the fine was announced, Vance warned that the European Union should support free speech, not attack American companies for unreasonableness.

“This exposes users to fraud, including identity fraud, as well as other forms of manipulation carried out by malicious parties,” the commission said in a statement.
The Commission also concluded that X was not sufficiently transparent regarding advertising and did not provide researchers with adequate access to public data as required by the DSA.Meanwhile, investigations into the spread of illegal content and manipulation of information on the platform are still ongoing.
According to the European Union, the amount of the fine is decided in proportion to the violation found.
“We’re not here to hand out the highest fines. We’re here to make sure our digital legislation is enforced,” Virkkunen said.
Some European officials welcomed the decision as a signal that the digital rules apply to all companies, regardless of origin.
The United States previously expressed its disapproval of the European Union’s technology regulations.US President Donald Trump also previously encouraged Europe to “abandon its perceived burdensome focus on industry”.
At the same time, the European Commission also said it had accepted TikTok’s commitment to address concerns regarding its advertising system, although the platform remains under investigation regarding other issues under the DSA.
