Senyar Tropical Cyclone
passing over the island of Sumatra, especially around Aceh and North Sumatra.The emergence of this tropical cyclone triggered extreme weather and floods and landslides in the two northernmost regions of Sumatra Island.
The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) revealed that Tropical Cyclone Senyar caused rain with very heavy to extreme intensity in the Aceh and North Sumatra regions, as well as moderate-heavy rain in parts of West Sumatra and Riau.

Apart from that, strong winds have the potential to occur in the areas of Aceh, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Riau Islands and Riau.Then, Tropical Cyclone Senyar also triggered medium-high waves (1.25-2.5 meters) in the central part of the Malacca Strait, North Sumatra waters and Rokan Hilir waters.
Not only that, high category waves (2.5-4 meters) also have the potential to occur in the northern part of the Malacca Strait, Aceh waters and the Indian Ocean west of Aceh to Nias.
BMKG Director of Public Meteorology Andri Ramdhani said that Indonesia is near the equator, which theoretically does not support the formation or passage of tropical cyclones.Nevertheless, he said that in the last five years quite a lot of tropical cyclones have moved close to Indonesian territory and had a significant impact.
“Phenomena like Tropical Cyclone Senyar are relatively uncommon in the waters of the Malacca Strait, especially if they cross land,” said Andri in an online press conference, Wednesday (26/11).
As a result of the emergence of Tropical Cyclone Senyar, a number of areas in Aceh and North Sumatra were hit by extreme rain which resulted in flooding and landslides.
In North Aceh, two residents, Muzammar (30) and M. Afdalil (27), reportedly died as a result of the floods that hit the area.
Victim Muzammar died due to electric shock while trying to save livestock in his yard in Tanjong Babah Village, Matangkuli District.Meanwhile, M. Afdalil was swept away by the flood currents in Tanah Jambo Aye District.
Flash floods also hit Panggugunan Village, Pakkat District, Humbang Haunjungan (Humbahas) Regency, North Sumatra, due to heavy rain that hit the area.
As a result of this incident, initially 11 people were reported missing.Eight residents’ houses were also damaged and some were carried away by soil material, while one car was swept away by the flood.
“There were 11 victims, after a search was carried out, 6 people were found, 2 of them died, 4 others were seriously injured. So currently 5 more residents are still being searched for,” said Humbahas Deputy Chief of Police, Commissioner Manson.
Not only flash floods, landslides and fallen trees also occurred at a number of points in Pakkat District and Onan Ganjang District, Humbahas Regency on Tuesday night (25/11).
Access to the Trans-Sumatra Road (Jalinsum) connecting Pakkat-Doloksanggul, precisely in Hamlet IV Batu Alone, Parbotihan Village, Onan Ganjang District was completely paralyzed due to a landslide.Isolated residents had difficulty getting information because telecommunications signals had been lost since evening.
