According to him, collaboration in providing fast internet services is a real breakthrough to accelerate digital access throughout Indonesia.
“This is not just a formality, but a strong declaration of vision, commitment and joint action towards a digitally empowered Indonesia,” he said, in a statement, Wednesday (12/11).
Nezar explained that the technology adopted in this project is based on Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) 5G at the 1.4 GHz frequency.SURGE itself was one of the winners in the auction for the rights to use this frequency.
FWA technology is said to enable high-speed internet services without the need to wait for the construction of fiber optic networks, which has been a major obstacle in many areas.
“It’s not just about connecting people. It’s about providing affordable high-speed access. This technology is designed to bypass the traditional, expensive and time-consuming process of installing fiber optics for everyone,” said Nezar.
This step is considered to be in line with the national strategy to narrow the digital gap and strengthen the foundations of Indonesia’s digital economy.
Data shows that the level of fixed broadband internet penetration in Indonesia is still low, with download speeds in ninth position out of ten ASEAN countries.
On the other hand, internet costs are relatively high compared to other countries in the region.
“The problem is not just technical, but concerns digital justice. Fast internet cannot only be enjoyed by a few areas. With this collaboration, we will bring equal access to all of society,” explained Nezar.
Furthermore, this project is said to confirm the government’s commitment to creating an inclusive digital ecosystem through strategic partnerships between the public and private sectors.
The government fully supports this initiative by providing access to vital resources, including the use of the 1.4 GHz frequency.
For your information, this collaboration between Indonesia and Japan began with a memorandum of understanding in the digital and communications sector which is now continuing to the implementation stage.
Through this project, the government hopes that the benefits of fast internet can be felt directly by the community, especially MSMEs, the distance education sector and telemedicine services in the regions.
“We are talking about a future where connectivity runs smoothly, innovation is democratized, and technology becomes a true driving engine for national progress,” concluded Nezar.
