Tropical Cyclone
FINA, which developed from Tropical Cyclone Seed 97S, is currently in the Southeast Arafuru Sea and is having impacts in the form of moderate to heavy intensity rain, strong winds and high waves for the surrounding area.
“Tropical Cyclone FINA, which developed from Tropical Cyclone Seed 97S, is currently detecting the center of circulation in the Arafuru Sea southeast of Tanimbar Island with a maximum wind speed of around 40 knots (75 km/hour) and a minimum air pressure of 994 hPa,” wrote the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) on Instagram, Thursday (20/11) evening.

“The intensity of Tropical Cyclone FINA is expected to increase in the next 24 hours in category 2 (two) with movement towards the Southwest,” he added.
BMKG said this tropical cyclone would have a direct and indirect impact on extreme weather conditions and Indonesian waters in the next 24 hours (20 November 19.00 WIB – 21 November 19.00 WIB).

Tropical Cyclone Seed 97S will transform into Tropical Cyclone FINA starting November 19 2025 at 01:00 WIB.
BMKG Deputy for Meteorology, Guswanto, explained that the strength of the cyclone was recorded as category 1, with a maximum wind speed around the system reaching 40 knots (75 km/hour) and a minimum pressure of 993 hPa.Cyclone FINA was observed moving towards the East – North East at a speed of 4 knots (8 km/hour), and is currently moving quite close to Indonesian territory.
“This rapid growth prompted BMKG to immediately issue an early warning regarding the potential impacts of extreme weather, especially heavy to very heavy rain and dangerous sea waves, in the Maluku and East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) regions,” said Guswanto in his statement, Wednesday (19/11).
Considering the rapid growth of Tropical Cyclone FINA and the threat of its increase, BMKG Director of Public Meteorology Andri Ramdhani appealed to all communities and stakeholders in the affected areas, especially in Maluku and NTT to increase disaster prevention and preparedness measures to minimize the risk of extreme weather impacts.
“Regional governments in Maluku and NTT are advised to increase coordination and preparedness for potential disasters such as floods, flash floods and damage due to strong winds,” said Andri.
