“Across the country, this day encourages public awareness and conservation efforts to protect Indonesia’s unique natural heritage for future generations,” Google said on its official website, Wednesday (5/11).
“Doodle artwork created manually combines species from land, sea and air. Each species represents an aspect of Indonesia’s extraordinary biodiversity and symbolizes connection and harmony between different worlds,” he continued.
National Puspa and Animal Love Day was first initiated by President Soeharto through Presidential Decree Number 4 of 1993. Through this determination, Soeharto wanted people to respect living creatures by increasing protection and reducing illegal hunting.
At that time, the Soeharto government saw many threats to nature, such as illegal logging and animal hunting. Therefore, through this presidential decree, the government wants the public to realize that flora and fauna are priceless national treasures.
National puspa are special flowers that represent the beauty of Indonesia. There are three main types of national puspa, namely jasmine, moon orchid, and giant padma or Rafflesia Arnoldi.
Meanwhile, the national animals are the Komodo dragon, red siluk fish and Javanese eagle. All three are rare animals that only exist in Indonesia.
These animals are protected because they are threatened with extinction due to habitat loss.
