in Cianjur, West Java, it was built in 6,000 BC.This makes the site one of the oldest megalithic structures in the world.

“The samples studied and tested included carbon content taken from the fifth terrace, to be precise at a depth of four meters below the surface of the site, so that the age of the outer structure can be seen and how many years old it can be,” he said, quoting Antara, Sunday (30/11).
The research team also discovered a foundation structure consisting of round and pentagonal stones at a depth of four meters.Researchers concluded that these neatly arranged stones formed the foundation structure.
This foundation structure shows that the Gunung Padang site was built in stages over several periods.
Laboratory test results show that the Gunung Padang Megalithic Site was built as early as 6,000 BC, confirming that this site is older than the Giza Pyramids in Egypt.
“The construction of this site was carried out in stages until the end that we can see now, after the foundation was formed, it was continued with the construction of the structure above it and so on,” he said.
After confirming the age of the site, he said, research continued with the initial restoration process, including repairing a number of stones that had shifted from their original location due to natural factors, and large-scale restoration would be carried out in early 2026.
“In December, initial restoration will be carried out, including returning shifted or damaged stones to their original position, while at the beginning of the year large-scale restoration will be carried out,” he said.
