Catherine said the first trend that will develop in 2026 is sovereign AI.According to him, sovereign AI is no longer about compliance, but about company growth.
IBM analysis shows that, by 2027, 80 percent of multinational organizations in Asia Pacific will implement a sovereign data strategy.
The sovereign cloud market in this region is also expected to increase 4.5 times from US$37 billion in 2023 to US$169 billion in 2028.
Responding to this growth projection, Catherine said that digital sovereignty should be a priority at the board of directors level.Enterprises also need to adopt hybrid cloud infrastructure to pursue AI sovereignty.
Apart from that, companies must also utilize AI to transform workflows, as well as improve worker skills for sovereign AI technology.
Apart from sovereign AI, 2026 will also be a period where AI functions as a company growth booster.
“The application of AI is currently developing from the initial automation stage, from process automation to cost efficiency, and now AI is being used to support business, which we call revenue creation. 64 percent of CEOs realize that success depends more on adoption by humans than the technology itself,” said Catherine.
He said that 72 percent of global CEOs also highlighted the use of GenAI as the key to excellence in competition in the industry.
To be able to use AI to contribute to revenue, said Catherine, companies need to create a roadmap for their AI transformation journey, starting from using automation to increase productivity, updating HR skills, looking for differentiation from competitors, finding new business models, to looking for new revenue channels using AI.
The next trend is agentic AI interoperability which will shape business operations.Responding to this trend, companies are said to need to build an agentic AI architecture, maintain data flow including the AI agents used, and assess the impact of employees and AI agents.
The fourth trend is the presence of trusted AI.95 percent of company executives believe that user trust in AI will be the key to success.
Therefore, companies need to ensure transparency in products that have an AI touch;show the impact they have from sharing data;provide flexibility to delete data;to inviting users to try the latest AI features before they are launched.
The latest trend is the adoption of quantum computing.According to Catherine, quantum computers can improve the problem-solving process better than any classical method in terms of accuracy, running time or cost.
Another key to the success of quantum computing in business is ecosystem integration.IBM’s survey shows organizations ready for quantum computing are part of some ecosystems more than others.
Catherine said that presence in several ecosystems could also be done with a partnership scheme.
Furthermore, he highlighted the importance of human resources in the adoption of AI technology. The best technology, he said, will not run well without qualified human resources.
