The Ministry of Communications and Digital (Komdigi) has opened its voice regarding the circulation of data theft applications under the guise of eagle-eyed debt collectors (
matel
) in the Play Store app store.
Komdigi said it had applied for the removal of seven applications suspected of being related to this practice.

“Currently, we have followed up on 7 (seven) applications that are suspected of being related to eagle eye practices by submitting a request for delisting to Google,” said Komdigi Director General of Digital Space Monitoring Alexander Sabar to

“Meanwhile, for other applications that have not been released, a further verification process is still being carried out by the platform,” he added.
Alex said that his party is actively monitoring applications or digital content that are indicated to violate statutory provisions.
Regarding the alleged sale and misuse of motorbike leasing customer data which was used by certain parties, he said, handling of the application in question can be carried out in accordance with the Minister of Communication and Information Regulation Number 5 of 2020 concerning the Implementation of Private Scope Electronic Systems.
“The enforcement process is carried out through stages of inspection, analysis, as well as recommendations for terminating access or deleting applications, based on official letters from relevant sector supervisory agencies, such as the Financial Services Authority or the National Police of the Republic of Indonesia,” he explained.
Alex further said that Komdigi continues to strengthen coordination with sector supervisory agencies and digital platforms to ensure the digital space remains safe, as well as protecting the public from misuse of personal data and illegal activities in the digital realm.
Previously, information about the Matel debt collector application circulated on social media, one of which was uploaded by the @theapologet account on platform X.
“It turns out that the complete data of customers who are late in paying (addresses, number plates, etc.) can be accessed freely via the application on Playstore? This is what makes Matel (Mata Elang) even more violent when it comes to confiscating/seizing vehicles on the streets. How can an application like this pass verification? There’s a real danger of data leakage,” he said, Tuesday (16/12).
The upload is also accompanied by a video showing several Matel application names, such as DataMatel – Complete R2 Data;BM – Complete Matel R4 Data;Gomatel – Late Payment R2 Data;and Super Matel AppR4.
Arrested
The police have arrested several people who are suspected of being involved with one of the debt collector applications, ‘Gomatel-Data R4 Telat Bayar’.
The Gresik Police Criminal Investigation Unit arrested four people suspected of being involved in the operation of the matel application.Two were arrested at a coffee shop, one was summoned, and one was detained at his home in Tuban.
“Yesterday two of them were arrested in the names of F and D at a coffee shop in Manyar (Gresik), one person in the name of R was contacted by investigators and came to the police station, and one person in the name of K as IT was arrested in Tuban at his home,” said Head of Criminal Investigation Unit for the Gresik Police, AKP Arya Widjaya, Thursday (18/12).
Arya said that his party was still examining the four people to collect criminal evidence from the operation of the matel application.Currently their status is still witnesses.
