“It is now increasingly becoming a global consensus that social media and online games have a negative impact if used by those who are still children or teenagers,” said Edwin at the Komdigi Office, Central Jakarta, Friday (14/11).
As a reference, various countries already have gaming age classification systems, including countries that build gaming industries such as the United States and South Korea. Some of these countries have classified games for teenagers according to the rating when playing a particular game.
“The United States, South Korea, already have rating systems for what ages can play certain games,” said Edwin.
In the example presented, a number of games have age restrictions especially abroad.”For example, PUBG, Free Fire, in America are designated as games for 13 years and over,” he continued.
In this case, children under this age cannot register or access the game.Even South Korea has been strict about the game’s rating.
To strengthen protection at the national level, the government officially launched the Indonesia Game Rating System at the beginning of last November.
“We call it IGRS, Indonesia Game Rating System. Simply put, it’s the BSF for games. Not all
games
“Online can be played by children or teenagers under the legal age,” said Edwin.
In IGRS the government has set age classifications starting from toddlers, 7-10 years, 10+, 13+, 15+, and 18+.Game publishers are required to do so
self-assessment
against rating categories before the game was released.
“Publishers are responsible for doing so
assessment
whether it’s 13+ or 15+ before it’s launched on the market,” he said.
The government has also formed a special team to carry out periodic reviews, this step is intended not to hamper the creativity of the gaming industry in Indonesia.
“We will limit the use of online games but not kill creativity, because there are historical, geographical, cultural and even scientific games that are made in the form of games and can increase intelligence.”closed Edwin.
Through strong supervision and classification of game ratings such as popular games like PUBG, Free Fire, and other types of RPG games.Komdigi is committed to building a digital ecosystem that is safe, healthy and continues to support the creativity of the younger generation.
