Ministry of Communications and Digital (
Komdigi
) RI continues to strive to restore the paralyzed telecommunications network in Sumatra.Because the power grid has not been restored, Komdigi is looking for alternatives to reactivate the Base Transceiver Station (BTS).
Deputy Minister of Communications, Nezar Patria, said that the key to restoring the telecommunications network was to reactivate the BTS.However, the electricity network in the three provinces affected since the disaster at the end of November 2025 has not yet fully recovered. In fact, BTS only functions when PLN electricity supply is available.

“However, we will try while the electricity network repairs are being carried out, Kominfo will try to find a solution so that these BTS can be turned on with other options, for example with generators,” said Nezar at UGM, Sleman, DIY, Saturday (13/12).
While looking for other options, continued Nezar, Komdigi is also negotiating with cellular operators or telecommunications providers to speed up this process while waiting for the electricity network to recover.
“We are trying as hard as possible to normalize the telecommunications network in the disaster area,” he concluded.
Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto targets that electricity supply in disaster-affected areas can be restored in around 1 week, although the repair process faces a number of obstacles in the field.
Prabowo explained that restoring electricity flow could not be done quickly because the physical condition of the infrastructure and natural factors were still obstacles.
According to him, some areas are still flooded, hampering network repairs and cable installation. He asked the public to understand that the recovery process takes time and cannot be done immediately.
As of December 11, 2025, it was reported that Aceh’s recovery condition was recorded at 36 percent, North Sumatra was at 99.8 percent after subsequent landslides and West Sumatra had been at 100 percent since December 5, 2025.
Aceh is an affected area that still requires attention. To speed up recovery in several villages, PLN needs support in opening up road access that is still cut off for transportation of network materials as well as providing fuel for vehicle operations.
