) explained the internet penetration target in 2029 starting from fixed broadband internet coverage in households with a speed of 100 Mbps.
“The development of fixed broadband infrastructure in 2029 is expected to reach fiber optic coverage of up to 90 percent at the sub-district level, a fixed broadband penetration rate in households of 50 percent, and service speeds reaching 100 Mbps,” said Director General of Digital Infrastructure Wayan Toni Supriyanto at the inauguration of the Internet Village in Sragen Regency, Central Java, Wednesday (5/11).

Wayan said that currently fixed broadband coverage has only reached 21 percent.The Internet Village Program is said to be one of the steps to realizing this target.
On this occasion, Komdigi provided 87 free internet access points in Sribit Village and Tlogotirto Village, Sragen Regency.
Wayan together with the Minister of Communications and Digital Meutya Hafid carried out internet speed testing in Sribit Village, the fixed broadband internet installed in the area was seen to have a download speed of 24.5 Mbps.
Meutya hopes that the internet which is being deployed in the two villages can be used for productive things.
“We hope that internet use can be focused on productive things and not negative things,” he said on the same occasion.
“We entrust it to regional heads, from the village head to the regent level, to use this for things that increase the productivity of the main sectors in the surrounding areas,” he added.
He said that if the area excels in the food sector, then the internet can be used to boost that sector.Similar things can also be done in other sectors, such as MSMEs.
Previously, this internet access assistance program had reached 1,194 points in 20 villages in 9 districts in 5 provinces, with North Sumatra as the largest recipient, namely 307 points covering Deli Serdang Regency and Serdang Bedagai Regency.
The 2025 Internet Village Program is expected to become a driving force for the village economy, strengthen synergy between central and regional governments, and ensure that no community is left behind in digital transformation.
