For business actors, keeping up with this pace of change is the key to maintaining closeness to customers and driving sustainable growth.
“Digital transformation in Indonesia is progressing very rapidly, and we see how social trends and technology such as AI are increasingly becoming an important part of the daily lives of people and business people,” said Pieter Lydian, Coutry Director of Meta Indonesia, in his statement, Wednesday (10/12).
To help businesses read the direction of these developments, Meta explains five digital and social trends that are predicted to develop rapidly in 2026:
1. GenAI Automation
AI is now the main bridge for people to search for information and deepen references found online. In 2026, this role will become even more prominent as Gen AI and automation advance.
For example, when seeing a product in a friend’s upload or a creator’s video, users can directly ask AI to get personal answers, product research and style recommendations.
In Indonesia, the application of AI is very real, 79 percent of SMEs have used it, especially for marketing new products (65 percent) and customer communications (61 percent). In the future, AI will increasingly help businesses increase productivity while reducing costs.
2. Book businesses and AI agents
Messaging applications such as WhatsApp, Instagram DM, and Messenger have developed into key transaction channels.Customers can ask questions and shop in one conversation with the help of AI agents who can answer basic questions automatically.
For example, the Financial Services Authority (OJK) uses WhatsApp chatbots for financial information services, which can increase productivity fourfold and resolve 80 percent of questions via bot.
3. AI-based creator ecosystem
Creators are now the main driver of consumer purchasing decisions.AI amplifies that influence by helping creators make content more relevant, predict trends, and personalize recommendations.
One form of collaboration is Facebook’s affiliate program with Shopee, which allows creators to link products directly in content so they can generate real-time sales.
4. More immersive video and live Commerce
Video has become the primary language of digital commerce.Live shopping and interactive video formats are driving sales, strengthened by nearly 2 million advertisers who utilize Gen AI to create more varied and relevant video material.
Meta is also testing a feature that allows creators to add product links in Instagram Reels so purchases can be made directly from the video.
5. Cross-border trade and halal economy
Asia Pacific is now a center for cross-border trade, opening up great opportunities for Indonesian halal products to enter the global Muslim market.
Increasingly mature digital infrastructure makes it easier for local brands ranging from fashion, food, to halal cosmetics to penetrate the international market. It is increasingly easier for consumers to access certified halal products from various countries.
