At the end of October, users were asked to re-register security keys (pass keys) so they could access their respective accounts before November 10.
This was conveyed via the official X Safety account (@safety), last Friday (24/10).
“As of November 10, we are asking all accounts that use security keys as a two-step authentication (2FA) method to re-enroll their keys [login codes] so they can continue to access X,” wrote the @Safety account, quoted Wednesday (29/10).
X represents the security key listed as the 2FA method currently connected to the twitter domain.X said not all 2FA methods were affected, but only Yubikeys and Passkeys,
“To clarify: this change is not related to any security issues, and only affects Yubikeys and pass keys – not other 2FA methods (such as authenticator apps). Security keys listed as 2FA methods are currently connected to the twitter[.]com domain. Re-registering your security key will connect it to x[.]com, so we can retire the Twitter domain,” X said in a statement quoted by @safety.
“If this applies to you, you will be asked to re-register automatically. You can also do this proactively by clicking “Add another key” and re-registering your current key at https://x.com/settings/account/login_verification/security_keys,” he added.
