Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (
BRIN
) who was newly appointed, Arif Satria, admitted that he received a special message from the President
Prabowo Subianto
to focus on several development sectors, such as food, energy and water.
“Essentially, we are asked to oversee the development process which emphasizes food issues, energy issues and also water issues. I think those three are important,” said Arif after the Handover of Position at the BRIN Office, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (11/11).

“And of course BRIN also has an impact, a big impact on our economic progress,” he added.
Apart from that, he also highlighted several other areas that BRIN will focus on, such as the environment and health.
He said that what BRIN currently has is very strong and very large capital.This capital, he said, needs to be strengthened further so that it can have a greater impact.
One of BRIN’s main assets is its researchers.Therefore, this element is one that needs to be strengthened.
“Now what is important for us is orchestration, how to strengthen collaboration and synergy between researchers in Indonesia,” he said.
According to Arif, researchers are not only at BRIN, but also on campus.In this case, BRIN is also collaborating with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Kemendiktisaintek).
Short term targets
Arif said he needed to find out what programs could have an impact on research progress in the next two months.
The first step that will be taken is to hear about the achievements of each deputy and the work organization.
“After hearing the input, the existing information, we will immediately formulate what steps (to be taken),” he said.

“The framework is that, as I said yesterday, we need national consolidation in the field of research and innovation,” he added.
He also highlighted the research ecosystem in the region.According to him, it is important to place researchers in the regions to solve local problems.
Arif stated his desire to create many “research satellites” in the regions which could later collaborate with existing investments in the regions.
“In my opinion, we need to strengthen the regional base. So BRIN is not just managing BRIN. BRIN is not just a research organization, but the task of BRIN is to build a culture of research and innovation,” he said.
