President Prabowo Subianto officially inaugurated
Arif Satria
as Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (
BRIN
), at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Monday (10/11).He replaces Laksana Tri Handoko, who has served since 2021.
Arif was appointed together with Amarulla Octavian who was appointed as Deputy Head of BRIN.

Arif previously served as Chancellor of the Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB) University since 2018. The man born in Pekalongan, Central Java, 17 September 1971, began his academic journey at IPB in 1990.
He then completed his undergraduate studies at the Agricultural Extension Study Program, Department of Agricultural Socioeconomics, Faculty of Agriculture IPB in 1995.
He then carried out his academic career as a lecturer in the Department of Fisheries Socioeconomics, Faculty of Fisheries IPB in 1997 or two years after graduating from S1.
Arif continued his studies by earning a master’s degree from the IPB Rural Sociology Program in 1999.
Apart from that, Arif received a doctorate after studying at Kagoshima University, Japan, in the field of Marine Policy in 2006, and undergoing a visiting student program at the Fisheries Center, University of British Columbia, Canada.
Then, in 2019, he was confirmed as a Permanent Professor at the Faculty of Human Ecology IPB in the field of Political Ecology.He served as chancellor for two periods, namely 2017-2022 and 2023-2028.
Arif has also held important positions in a number of organizations, including Chair of the Association of Indonesian Muslim Scholars (ICMI) for the 2021-2026 period, General Chair of the Indonesian Chancellors Forum for the 2020-2021 period, and Chair of the Association of Indonesian Agricultural Scholars for the 2011-2016 period.
Apart from that, Arif was also Deputy Chair of the KPK Selection Committee in 2024. He was also listed as President Commissioner of PTPN Holding in 2018-2022.
