“The results are quite effective in reducing rainfall. The last few days in these 3 provinces have been generally sunny and cloudy with sporadic rain at several points,” he said.
Previously, intensive OMC was scheduled to be held from November 27 to Monday (1/12).
Seto said that the OMC implementation took into account the meteorological analysis that applies in the area. This is to ensure that weather modification efforts are successful in showing their impact.
“The seeding strategy is carried out by intervening in clouds carrying rainwater before it enters the disaster-affected areas, specifically in the waters to the west and north of North Sumatra Province,” said Seto in a statement, Sunday (30/11).
The results of the BMKG analysis show that moderate-heavy rain (alert) still has the potential to occur in Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra on November 30-December 2.Meanwhile, heavy to very heavy rain and strong winds still have the potential to occur in a number of other parts of Indonesia.
OMC in North Sumatra is centered at the Kualanamu Airport Command Post (Posko), Medan, North Sumatra.Until November 29 2025, the OMC team had carried out 9 flight sorties, with a total use of 4,800 kg of NaCl and 2,400 kg of CaO seedling material.
Meanwhile in Aceh and West Sumatra, OMC is carried out from the Sultan Iskandar Muda Aceh Meteorological Station (Stamet) Command Post and the Minangkabau International Airport Command Post, West Sumatra.
As of Saturday (29/11), OMC in Aceh had carried out 4 flight sorties using the Cessna Caravan PK-SNP aircraft which sowed 2,000 kg of NaCl and 2,000 kg of CaO.
Meanwhile, OMC in West Sumatra, which is centralized through the Minangkabau International Airport Command Post, has carried out 5 flight sorties using Cessna Caravan PK-DPI and PK-SNK aircraft with a total of 4,400 kg of NaCl seeding material.
