Airbus A400M
The first one purchased by Indonesia finally arrived at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, Jakarta, on Monday (2/10).
Plane
with registration number A-4001, he was greeted with a traditional water salute after traveling for three days from Seville, Spain.
A number of Indonesian Air Force personnel participated in the flight, including Lt. Col. Pnb Putut Satriya, Pnb Major Riki Sihaloho, Pnb Major Fathir Muhammad, and Pnb Captain Indra Kusuma.

The arrival of this aircraft was welcomed directly by the Air Force Chief of Staff, Marshal Tonny Harjono, along with high-ranking Indonesian Air Force officers.Previously, Indonesia signed a contract to purchase two Airbus A400M units in 2021.
According to the Ministry of Defense’s official website, the Airbus A400M has reliable capabilities for tactical transport missions, including sending personnel and logistics in various terrain conditions.
In strategic transport missions, this aircraft can carry large and heavy loads of up to 37 tons, such as fuel trucks with a capacity of 80 tons and heavy equipment such as excavators.
In addition, the A400M can accommodate up to 116 soldiers complete with combat equipment, and can carry military vehicles such as the Patriot Launcher, Hemtt Truck, nine pallets of military cargo, and 54 additional personnel.
Large-scale military payload
According to the official Airbus website, the A400M is a multipurpose strategic transport aircraft capable of operating in various terrains, including areas with limited facilities.With a large carrying capacity, this aircraft can carry various types of heavy and oversized cargo, both for military needs and humanitarian missions.
In addition, the A400M is also designed to be able to take off and land on unpaved runways, making it ideal for operations in remote or disaster-affected areas.
The Airbus A400M has extraordinary capabilities in transporting heavy loads with a maximum capacity of up to 37 tonnes.This aircraft is also designed to carry large-sized cargo with a cargo area of 4 meters x 4 meters and a volume of up to 340 cubic meters.
In strategic missions, the A400M is capable of flying at a maximum altitude of 40,000 feet at speeds of up to Mach 0.72.
This aircraft also has twice the range of medium-class air transport aircraft, capable of carrying loads weighing 20 tons up to 3,400 nautical miles.
Proven in harsh environments
The A400M is designed with high maneuverability and low detection rates in mind.This aircraft is capable of extreme maneuvers with tilt angles of up to 120º, flying at low altitudes of up to 150 feet, making sharp ascents and descents, as well as short takeoffs and landings.
Additionally, the A400M has a very minimal infrared footprint, enhancing its ability to operate covertly.
To increase safety, this aircraft is equipped with a damage-resistant control system, an armored cockpit, a bulletproof windshield, and the use of inert gas in the fuel tank to prevent explosions.
The A400M also has a high level of survivability thanks to the chaff and flare defense system, agile and responsive fly-by-wire control, and support for advanced defense systems, making it difficult for enemies to detect or target.
With an internal fuel capacity of 51 tons, the A400M is able to carry more fuel so it has a longer flying range.This aircraft can be equipped with two refueling pods to support mid-air refueling for fighters and helicopters.
Additionally, the A400M can also receive fuel via a probe system, providing additional flexibility in long-range operations.
The A400M’s cargo hold is designed to be easily configured to suit your needs.The aircraft can carry up to 54 troops along with 9 pallets or vehicles, accommodate ISO containers up to 40 feet long, and support paratrooper and mixed-load drop operations.Apart from that, the A400M can also be converted into an aeromedical evacuation aircraft for humanitarian and rescue missions.
