blocking access to popular gaming platforms
Roblox
with accusations that the service from the United States was spreading extremist material and ‘LGBT propaganda’.This step was announced by the communications monitoring body Roskomnadzor on Wednesday local time.
In its statement, Roskomnadzor assessed that Roblox is “full of inappropriate content that can have a negative impact on the spiritual and moral development of children.”However, it is not explained in detail what material is considered infringing.
Roblox Corp has not yet commented on the ban.

, the gaming platform popular with children and teenagers, recorded an average of 151.5 million daily active users in the third quarter of this year.Roblox was previously blocked by a number of countries, including Iraq and Türkiye, due to concerns about online predators using the platform to target children.
On its official website, the company emphasizes its strong commitment to maintaining user safety by utilizing AI technology, a team of moderators, and collaborating with law enforcement officials and child safety experts.
This blocking adds to the long list of Western services restricted by Russia.Roskomnadzor has over the past few years been intensely blocking access to foreign media and technology platforms deemed to violate Russian law.
Last year, language learning app Duolingo removed all references to same-sex relationships after being warned by Roskomnadzor about LGBT content.
In 2023, Russia designated what it called the “international LGBT movement” an extremist organization and its supporters as terrorists, a move that paved the way for the threat of serious criminal cases.
In August this year, Russia also began restricting some calls via WhatsApp and Telegram.Both are accused of refusing to share data for fraud and terrorism investigations.In fact, Roskomnadzor last week threatened to block WhatsApp completely.
