Google calls 2025 a “nano-nano” year, a metaphor for how diverse netizens’ searches and curiosities have become throughout the year.
“This year is special, we will deepen it further. There are two special categories for running and padel,” said Feliciana Wienathan, Communication Manager for Google Indonesia, in Jakarta, Thursday (4/12).
Google also highlights the padel sports fever which is said to be a national phenomenon. Not only about “what is padel”, but public searches include playing techniques, outfits, and even field locations.
“Padel is a modern sport that is really being studied, that’s why we made a special list for running and padel, because it’s not just a trend,” explained Feliciana.
For the running category, netizens are exploring more technical terms such as PB running to elevation, showing that sport is no longer done just to follow trends.
Apart from the sports category, one of the most prominent phenomena is the increasing attention to the culture and sounds of Eastern Indonesia.Google said this appreciation has not only appeared – but is now increasingly penetrating the mainstream.
“The voice of Eastern Indonesia is increasing, being more and more appreciated. Regional pride can increasingly expand to the national level,” he said.
The desire to learn remains an annual pattern, but Google says there is a shift in interest towards more practical skills, especially those related to the digital world.
“This year learning is more about mastering and taking control in the digital era, from a financial and technological perspective,” he said.
Searches that have increased include how to pronounce foreign terms such as QRIS or Coretax, to searches about digital tools that often appear in everyday life.
A sector that is also stealing attention is the adoption of AI which is exploding throughout Indonesia.Google says AI has now become part of everyday life, as can be seen from the high number of searches on how to use AI features to create images.
“AI is not just a boom. It has integrated into lifestyle, Gemini AI has even been trending all year round,” said Feliciana.
Indonesia is even one of the countries with the highest use of AI in Asia Pacific.Google notes that the nano banana image creation feature in Gemini produces 18 million images per day in Indonesia.”We are the second highest country in Asia Pacific,” he explained.
