Sukabumi Regency
and its surrounding territory this weekend is called a shallow tectonic earthquake or

“The main earthquake (
mainshock
) Has Magnitude M4.0 with a depth of hypocenter of 7 km, “said Director of Gempabumi and Tsunami
BMKG
Daryono in his statement, Sunday (9/21).
Daryono explained that the epicenter or epicenter was located on land, precisely in the Kabandungan District area of Sukabumi Regency.
Proof of the Sukabumi-Bogor earthquake is a tectonic earthquake called an earthquake wave form (
Waveform
) DBJI (Darmaga) and CBJI (Citeko) seismic sensor notes with S (Shear) wave characteristics that appear strong with high frequency components.
“This fact also ensures that the earthquake that occurred was not triggered by a volcanic earthquake,” said Daryono.
The results of the BMKG analysis show that the earthquake has a horizontal/shear movement mechanism.
The monitoring results show a total of 39 aftershocks occur after the main earthquake. The aftershocks felt by residents 5 times with the power of M3.0 M3.8 M26, M2.8 and 3.8.
Magnitude of the largest aftershocks themselves with M3.8 and the smallest M 1.9.
Furthermore, Daryono said that the Sukabumi-Bogor earthquake was not triggered by Citarik Fault activities, because the main earthquake center and the supplements were spread far to the west of the Citarik fault route.
This series of earthquakes caused minor damage to several residents’ houses in Cipeuteuy Village, Kabandungan District.
Temporary notes show that there are 5 houses affected, and 20 people must face an emergency situation.
“Damage to house buildings is caused by shallow earthquake hypocenter, soft soil conditions in the earthquake zone and weak building structures are not standard earthquake resistant,” explained Daryono.
Daryono said that the destructive earthquake was not the first time occurred in this region.A similar incident was said to have occurred in March 2020 where hundreds of houses were damaged in 6 sub -districts including Kabandungan.
Then, in July 2000 the earthquake also damaged many houses in several districts, including Kabandungan.
A few years later, destructive earthquakes also occurred in December 2023 in Pamijahan and Kabandungan which caused 61 houses to be damaged.
