average temperature
Nationally in Indonesia it will still be warm as in previous years, but it is predicted that it will not be as hot as 2024.
In the 2026 Climate Outlook, BMKG said the average temperature in 2026 will be between 25-29 degrees Celsius.

“Throughout 2026, we predict that temperatures in Indonesia will range between 25-29°C on an annual average,” said BMKG Deputy for Climatology, Ardhasena Sopaheluwakan in the online Climate Outlook 2026 press conference, Tuesday (23/12).
Compared to normal conditions in the 1991-2020 period, most parts of Indonesia will experience warmer air temperatures with anomalous values ranging from 0.2-0.6 degrees Celsius.
“So, cumulatively, the national average in 2026 is within the range of temperatures that have occurred over the last few years,” he said.
Ardhasena said several areas would experience temperatures of more than 28 degrees Celsius, such as parts of southern Sumatra, parts of East Kalimantan, parts of Central Kalimantan, the north coast of Java and parts of South Papua.
On the other hand, Ardhasena also said that there are several areas with air temperatures below 25 degrees Celsius which are dominated by highland areas, such as the Bukit Barisan Sumatra, the Latimojong Mountains of Sulawesi, and the Jaya Wijaya Mountains of Papua.
Furthermore, BMKG estimates that August and September will be the hottest months in 2026 with an average temperature of between 25.5-30 degrees Celsius.
Even though the average annual temperature is the same as in other years, BMKG predicts that 2026 will not be as hot as 2024.
This is due to the presence of a weak La Nina which has the characteristic of cooling the Earth’s surface temperature.
“We do expect that 2026 will not be as hot as 2024. Likewise, the predictions of other global climate centers in other countries are mostly due to the current La Nina phenomenon which usually temporarily cools the earth’s surface temperature for approximately 1 year to 1.5 years,” said Ardhasena.
Surface air temperature anomalies in 2026 will generally be in the range of -0.5 degrees Celsius to +0.6 degrees Celsius compared to the climatological average.
The areas with the highest predicted values for air temperature anomalies are in East Kalimantan and parts of Jambi.Meanwhile, the lowest air temperature anomaly values are predicted to occur in the highlands of Central Java and the Nusa Tenggara region.
