Regarding this phenomenon, geologist and geological and volcanological disaster mitigation expert Ade Edward suspects that the river flowing into the ground is a limestone hill area.
“Well, if there is a river whose water has disappeared, that usually happens in the limestone hill areas. The limestone hill area is prone to dissolution,” said Edward in Padang, Saturday (6/12), as reported by

He explained that the phenomenon of river water suddenly breaking off or entering the ground outside the flow is usually known as a loss of river flow.In many cases, this is related to the formation of sinkholes.
This is a geological phenomenon that commonly occurs in areas with certain characteristics.
Ade said that generally in the limestone hill area there are cavities, so that the interrupted river flows into it, which then forms an underground river.
“Well, the character of the limestone hill area is such that the previous flow was cut off,” he explained.
However, a quick assessment of the location is needed to confirm this natural phenomenon.The reason is, it is feared that this condition could endanger the community, especially if there are settlements under the river flow.
According to him, this phenomenon usually occurs due to increased rainfall and causes ground movement.Therefore, the government or related parties need to immediately carry out a rapid assessment so as not to cause potential harm.
