According to Gulf News, total darkness due to a solar eclipse generally lasts for 2 to 3 minutes.However, in the total solar eclipse which will take place on August 2 2027, the moment of total darkness when the Moon is directly between the Earth and the Sun will occur for 6 minutes 23 seconds.
This makes it the longest eclipse that can be seen from Earth between 1991 and 2114.
Additionally, the path of totality of the eclipse, when the Moon completely blocks the Sun, will stretch across three continents, starting in the Atlantic Ocean and sweeping eastward.The totality corridor will be very wide, around 258 km at maximum.
A number of countries, such as Spain, Gibraltar, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Somalia, and the Chagos Islands in the British Indian Ocean region will be in the path of totality.
Even outside this corridor, the partial eclipse will be visible over a wide area of Europe, Africa and West Asia.
A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon is positioned between the Earth and the Sun, thereby blocking some or all of the Sun’s light in the Earth’s sky.There are four types of solar eclipses: total solar eclipses, annular solar eclipses, partial solar eclipses, and mixed solar eclipses.
However, this rare phenomenon will not be enjoyed by Indonesian citizens.The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said this phenomenon would not pass through Indonesian territory.
“The eclipse will also not pass through Indonesian territory. The path of totality of the eclipse will pass through Morocco, Spain, Algeria, Libya, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Yemen and Somalia,” explained BMKG, citing information from the US space agency.
