Kalmaegi and Cyclonic Circulation in the Indian Ocean will increase the intensity of rain in a number of areas over the next week.
“Currently, Tropical Cyclone Kalmaegi has been detected in the Jakarta TCWC Monitoring Area. This Tropical Cyclone has an indirect impact on weather conditions in the form of rain with moderate to heavy intensity and high waves in northern Indonesia,” wrote BMKG in its Weekly Weather Prospects for the Period 4-10 November 2025.

Meanwhile, cyclonic circulation is predicted to be consistent in the next week in the Indian Ocean southwest of Banten to Lampung. The presence of this cyclonic circulation can increase the potential for rain cloud growth along the west coast of Sumatra to western Java.
The cause of increasing rain intensity is not just these two weather dynamics. The combination of Equatorial Rossby Waves and Kelvin Waves will also support the formation of rain clouds around Indonesia in the next week.
Equatorial Rossby waves moving westward are predicted to be active and have the potential to increase the growth of convective clouds in parts of South Sumatra, the Bangka Belitung Islands, the Karimata Strait, West Kalimantan, the southern coast of Java, the Indian Ocean south of Java, Cendrawasih Bay and northern Papua.
Meanwhile, Kelvin waves propagating eastward are predicted to be active in the Aceh region, North Sumatra, most of Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan, as well as central and northern Sulawesi, as well as North Maluku, which has the potential to trigger the growth of rain clouds in the surrounding area.
“In the next week, the potential for rain cloud growth in various regions in Indonesia is estimated to remain significant,” explained BMKG.
“This condition is triggered by a combination of global, regional and local atmospheric factors which keep the atmosphere unstable and support the formation of convective clouds. As a result, rain with light to very heavy intensity is likely to occur in a number of areas,” he added.
Therefore, BMKG urges the public to remain alert to the potential for extreme weather, such as moderate to heavy rain which can be accompanied by lightning, strong winds and high sea waves in a number of areas in Indonesia.
