Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (
BMKG
) said that a number of regions in Indonesia still have the potential to experience extreme weather in the next week, including due to the activity of tropical cyclone seeds.
“Over the next week, the potential for the development of rain clouds in various regions of Indonesia is estimated to remain significant. This condition is influenced by a combination of atmospheric phenomena on a global, regional and local scale which simultaneously support the growth of convective clouds,” wrote BMKG in its Weekly Weather Prospects for the Period 18-24 November 2025.
Over the last few days, BMKG recorded heavy rain pouring down several areas such as Tanah Merah, South Papua;Palembang, South Sumatra;Tanjung Harapan, East Kalimantan;Makassar, South Sulawesi;to Toli-toli, Central Sulawesi.

Rain ranges from 56 to 92 mm/day.BMKG said the heavy rain in various regions was caused by a number of atmospheric dynamics.
This significant rainfall is predicted to continue for the next week.
Several main factors influencing weather dynamics in Indonesia in the next week are cyclonic circulation in the Indian Ocean southwest of Sumatra-Banten and in the South China Sea, as well as Tropical Cyclone Seed 97S in the South Timor Sea, Maluku.
Tropical Cyclone Seed 97S itself is predicted to remain consistent in the next few days, thus contributing to the growth of convective clouds in these areas.
Some time ago, BMKG also discovered the activity of Tropical Cyclone Seed 98S.However, since Sunday (16/11), the seeds of this tropical cyclone have become extinct.
Apart from that, there is also Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) activity and atmospheric waves such as Rossby Equatorial and Kelvin which are currently observed to be active in most parts of Indonesia.
All of these phenomena form an area of slowing wind speed (convergence) that extends over most of Indonesia. With sufficient air humidity and relatively strong local lability, the process of convective cloud formation becomes more significant and extreme weather still has the potential to occur in parts of Indonesia.
Therefore, BMKG urges the public to be alert to the potential for extreme weather, which includes moderate to heavy rain and can be accompanied by lightning, strong winds and high sea waves.
