“25 percent will be paid to the United States,” he continued.
This may suggest that 25 percent of Nvidia’s sales revenue to China will be transferred to the US government.
This policy was relaxed after Trump’s meeting with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang last week.Trump has repeatedly stated that the US must succeed in the global AI race, even though China has invested huge funds in its own domestic industry.
When confirmed separately, Nvidia admitted that it appreciated Trump’s decision to allow the H200 chip to be re-exported to China.
“We appreciate President Trump’s decision to allow America’s semiconductor industry to compete to support high-paying jobs and manufacturing in America,” an Nvidia spokesperson said.
“Offering H200 to approved commercial customers, which has been verified by the Department of Commerce, is a prudent balance that is very good for America,” he continued.
Trump also said that the Commerce Department was perfecting a similar approach for AMD, Intel and other American chip companies.
AMD also appreciates Trump’s steps regarding this export policy.According to the company, Trump’s decision could strengthen America’s competitiveness.
“The President’s decision strengthens America’s competitiveness, supports high-value domestic jobs, and encourages American investment and growth in the semiconductor industry,” an AMD spokesperson said.
The decision follows previous deals Trump made with chip manufacturers this year, including an agreement with Nvidia and AMD to pay the US government 15 percent of revenue from chip sales to China.
In August, Trump also announced that the government would take a 10 percent stake in Intel.
