Microsoft CEO Mustafa Suleyman stated that his party is currently designing artificial intelligence (AI) that is child-friendly.
“We are developing artificial intelligence (AI) that has emotional intelligence, is friendly and has a supportive nature, but is basically trustworthy,” said Suleyman, as reported by

Microsoft is in fierce competition with tech giants like OpenAI, Meta, and Google to make Copilot the AI tool of choice.
According to the company’s latest financial report, Copilot now has 100 million monthly active users across Microsoft platforms, well below competitors like OpenAI, whose ChatGPT has 800 million monthly active users.
However, Microsoft is confident that their approach will attract more users, especially as AI companies struggle to deliver chatbots with specific personalities, amid the issue of AI being a factor in the user mental health crisis.
“We must build AI for humans; not for digital humans,” Suleyman wrote in a blog post earlier this year.
Recently Copilot also released several new features which include the ability to ‘recall’ previous conversations, participate in group conversations, better responses to health questions, and a smart, casual tone called ”
real talk.
”
Furthermore, some of Microsoft’s competitors in the AI space face intense pressure to ensure the safety of young users on their platforms.
Several families have sued OpenAI and Character.AI with claims that both companies’ chatbots harmed their children, and in some cases allegedly contributed to suicide.
A number of reports earlier this year raised concerns that Meta chatbots and AI characters would be able to be used for sexual conversations even by accounts that self-identify as minors.
On the other hand, the tech company behind the popular AI chatbot says it has rolled out new protections for kids, including content restrictions and parental controls.
Meta and OpenAI also implemented AI age estimation technology aimed at detecting young users registering with fake adult birth dates. However, it is not yet clear how effective the system will be.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced earlier this month that with new security measures in place, ChatGPT will soon allow adult users to discuss “erotica” with the chatbot.
Suleyman said Microsoft draws a firm line against romantic, seductive and erotic content, even for adults.
“That’s not something we’re going to pursue,” he said.
This means that, for now, Microsoft likely won’t roll out a “young user” mode like some of its competitors are doing.Suleyman said that his party did not need this.
