Untirta Banten plans to develop artificial bone or bone graft from animal tissue through the veterinary study program (prodi) and the Untirta Teaching Hospital in 2026.If successful, this could reduce exports which have been carried out to save the health of many people.
“For example, 90 percent of the additional bone is still imported. Meanwhile, we can produce it ourselves. The plan for this teaching hospital is that we will facilitate bone graft or bone tissue that can be made, which is taken from animal tissue and that is the role of veterinarians there,” said the dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FKIK) Untirta, Tuesday, (18/11).

Apart from that, the Untirta veterinary medicine study program will also focus on the science of producing halal livestock.Starting from food, cage management to administering medicine that is guaranteed to be halal.
Currently, Indonesia still lacks veterinarians, so many health workers are needed to look after existing livestock and pets.
“When we talk about veterinary medicine we also talk about food security, according to Mr. Prabowo’s aspirations. One of the advantages of our veterinary study program is facilitating halal animal protein, because 90 percent of the population is Muslim, but no one focuses on that,” he explained.
Currently, the veterinary medicine major is less attractive to prospective students, but the health profession is actually really needed by the community.
One of them was during the Covid-19 pandemic, scientists and doctors conducted research, until the alleged origin of the virus was discovered, which was thought to have come from bats.
Then, human health also begins with healthy livestock consumed by the wider community.
“There is one health, if we talk about human health, we also talk about animal health,” he explained.
