A nurse and researcher from Emory University, Georgia, USA, led an innovative project to protect field workers from the risk of extreme heat.
Together with a team from Georgia Tech, Roxana Chicas developed a biopatch, a small tool mounted on the chest to monitor skin temperature, heartbeat, and breathing rate.
This tool is designed to detect symptoms of heat stress earlier and send real-time warnings to workers.
Until now, biopatch has been tested in 168 agricultural workers with positive results.
Chicas targets that this product is ready to be marketed in the next 1-2 years at an affordable price.
