The active Asian Monsoon is said to be the main trigger for the increase in the supply of wet air masses which is predicted to have an impact on people’s high mobility at the end of the year.
BMKG Director of Public Meteorology Andri Ramdhani explained that in the next week period heavy to very heavy rain could potentially occur in several areas such as parts of Riau, Bengkulu, West Java, Central Java, East Java, NTB, West Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, Central Sulawesi, West Sulawesi, Selayan Sulawesi and South Papua.
“However, climatologically, the areas that need to be watched out for include southern Sumatra, Java, Bali, Nusa Tenggara and South Papua. This increase in rainfall is expected to occur from late December to early January 2026,” said Andri in his statement, Tuesday (23/12).
Meanwhile, regarding the conditions in Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra, BMKG said that in general the weather conditions in the three provinces are predicted to be relatively conducive in the next week.
Based on the results of BMKG analysis, the area is dominated by green on the prediction map, which means that rainfall is in the light category or less than 20 mm per day.
“However, several points in Aceh are still in the yellow category (moderate rain), so people are still asked to be alert,” he said.
To speed up the recovery process in the field, BMKG together with the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) continue to activate Weather Modification Operations (OMC) in Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra.
This operation is claimed to be effective in reducing rainfall intensity by 23.35 percent in Aceh, 15.48 percent in North Sumatra, and 20.23 percent in West Sumatra.
Based on the results of the analysis above, during the Christmas period, BMKG recommends that the public remain calm and alert in facing weather dynamics.
The public can pay attention to the potential for heavy rain accompanied by strong winds which can trigger floods and landslides, especially in hilly and coastal areas.
On the other hand, people are advised to be careful in planning land, sea and air travel, as well as outdoor tourist activities on New Year’s Eve.
Therefore, the public and related stakeholders can monitor weather developments through the InfoBMKG application.BMKG monitors the weather in real-time through thousands of sensors and radars throughout Indonesia to provide the fastest information if significant weather changes occur.
