“The recent strong winds in Jakarta are related to the peak of the rainy season and regional atmospheric dynamics. BMKG predicts that strong wind conditions have the potential to continue until mid-December 2025, along with heavy rain and extreme weather in Jabodetabek,” said Guswanto, Deputy for Meteorology at BMKG, when contacted.

, Monday (15/12).
Guswanto explained that the phenomenon of strong winds in Jakarta cannot be separated from the peak period of the rainy season which occurred this December.According to him, the combination of heavy rain, convective clouds and differences in air pressure can trigger strong winds.
BMKG also noted the potential for heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds in Jabodetabek on 14-16 December 2025.
The impact on the field of this strong wind has caused trees to fall at several points in Jakarta and made fishermen on the Marunda coast reluctant to go to sea because of the high waves.
So, how long will this condition last?
BMKG predicts that extreme weather in the form of heavy rain and strong winds is expected to continue until December 21 2025 in the Jabodetabek area.
“West Java, including Jabodetabek, is currently recording a high frequency of extreme rain and strong winds compared to other regions,” said Guswanto.
“After mid-December, the wind intensity is expected to gradually decrease, but there is still the potential for heavy rain and local winds until the end of the month, especially before Christmas and New Year,” he added.
Be aware of the impact of risks
Guswanto appealed to residents to remain aware of the risk impacts of strong winds and extreme weather that will occur in the next few days.
One of the risks is the potential for trees to fall. This is because strong winds can cause fallen trees, light damage to buildings, and disrupt transportation activities.
According to him, areas with large trees, open electricity lines, as well as the northern coast of Jakarta such as Marunda and Cilincing need to increase awareness of this condition.
Residents are advised to avoid taking shelter under large trees during rain and strong winds. In addition, secure light objects outside the house so they don’t blow away in the wind.
“In conclusion, the strong winds in Jakarta currently are part of the extreme weather phenomenon at the peak of the rainy season. Based on BMKG forecasts, this condition still has the potential to last until around December 21 2025, so the public is advised to remain alert to impacts such as fallen trees, puddles and disruption of activities,” he concluded.
