Earthday
, there are a number of reasons why mangrove ecosystems are important, as well as the consequences that would occur if these areas were lost. Here are the details:
1. Mangroves function as carbon absorbers
Mangrove roots that sink into underwater sediments, nourished with organic material from tidal waves will enrich the soil, so that it can store carbon (blue carbon) which can maintain the atmosphere.
2. Mangrove forests are biodiversity areas
The Mangrove Ecosystem is a habitat for various species ranging from fish, crabs, turtles, sea turtles and others. This habitat also serves as a nesting, breeding and young care site for a variety of local wildlife.
3. Mangroves maintain and improve local water quality
The dense network of roots and vegetation prevents water channel pollution, filters pollutants, prevents water channel pollution, and protects the habitat and species in it.
4. Mangrove forests function as coastal protection
Mangrove trees protect coastlines and extreme weather events and slow erosion. In addition, mangroves provide protection in surrounding environments that are vulnerable to storms and at risk due to rising sea levels.
5. Mangrove forests provide important resources for humans
Millions of people depend on Mangrove forests for food, income and well-being, especially as Mangrove forest waters provide an abundant supply of fish for local fishermen.Directly supports land and sea food networks.
