Garth Graham, Global Head of Healthcare YouTube & Google Health, said he was very enthusiastic about the introduction
tools
recently to control the duration of scrolling shorts.According to him, the YouTube company wants to regulate viewing habits to make them healthier and more balanced.
In addition to “Take a Break” and “Bedtime” reminders now activating automatically for users under the age of 18, YouTube is bringing important updates to strengthen time controls on the platform.
This latest feature launched by YouTube allows teenage users to limit the daily duration of Shorts.Through this feature, users can determine for themselves how much time they spend watching the Shorts feed each day.
“We launched a feature that allows users, including teenagers, to set a daily duration limit for scrolling Shorts feeds on mobile devices,” said Graham in Jakarta, Thursday (20/11).
The settings are available in the Settings menu, and when the limit is reached, YouTube will send a notification and temporarily stop the Shorts feed until the next day.
Toward the end of the year, YouTube also plans to expand parental controls to allow Shorts time limits to be enforced through supervised accounts, so parents can set limits that kids can’t ignore.
“Later this year, we also plan to expand the parental control feature to integrate Shorts time limits, so that parents who use the account are supervised,” he explained.
In addition, YouTube continues to strengthen protection for teenagers through a safer recommendation system. This platform now limits the type of content that, although safe if watched once, has the potential to have negative impacts if consumed repeatedly.
This protection initially only covered three categories, but has now been expanded to six categories, including physical comparison content, social aggression and unrealistic financial advice.
