Ministry of Communication and Digital (
Komdigi
) requires digital platforms, including social media, verifying age as an effort to protect children’s users.
President Prabowo Subianto together with the Minister of Communication and Information Meutya Hafid has launched a Government Regulation on Governance of the Implementation of Electronic Systems in Child Protection (PP Tunas on March 28, 2025.
Director General of Public and Media Communication Ministry of Komdigi Fifi Aleyda Yahya said PP Tunas was not just regulation, but the foundation of national policy to ensure the safety of children in cyberspace.
“We encourage digital platforms to provide security features that are easy to use, including the age classification system and parental control. This is not just an additional feature, but the main instrument of child protection,” Fifi said in a statement, Tuesday (05/08).
Through PP Tunas, said FIFI, each PSE is required to provide effective parental control features, determine high privacy by default for children’s accounts, and prohibit the location of children’s location and proper data for commercial purposes.
He explained that the government appreciated the digital platform that had proactively implementing child safety features, as Netflix did.
“Features such as parental control and age classification provide greater control parents, as well as presenting calm that children explore safe digital spaces,” he said.
Furthermore PP Tunas is said to be born in the midst of a surge in digital threats to Indonesian children.
According to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) data, Indonesia is the fourth country in the world of child pornography. While UNICEF said 89 percent of Indonesian children access the internet an average of 5.4 hours per day and almost half exposed to sexual content.
“From the end of 2024 to mid 2025, Komdigi handled more than 1.7 million online gambling content and nearly 500 thousand pornographic content,” explained Fifi.
Fifi explained that the government encouraged the three pillar approaches to protect children, namely regulation, education, and collaboration.
Komdigi itself is present not only as a regulator, but also as a driving for a safe and inclusive digital ecosystem, especially for the younger generation.
“Our children grow in the world where the screen can be a teacher, friends, as well as their playroom. So, platforms such as Netflix are not only entertainment, but doors to literacy, culture, and global interactions,” he concluded.
